Consumer debt reaches record-high of $14 trillion

U.S. consumers’ total debt crossed the $14 trillion mark in the third quarter to a record high, according to the latest report from the Center for Microeconomic Data, part of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The debt includes mortgages, credit cards, student loans, personal loans, auto loans, and all other forms of consumer debt. The total has been rising for 21 straight quarters and has now surpassed the previous high reached in the third quarter of 2008, just as the financial crisis hit. Click here for more.
