T-Mobile experienced a data breach on August 20

On Thursday, T-Mobile announced that it was hit with a data breach on August 20 that may have allowed hackers to gain access to the personal information of around 2 million of its customers. Information comprised included the name, billing zip code, phone number, email address, account number, and account type (prepaid or postpaid) of users. Click here for more.

There's been a lot of discussion of “fake news” on social media lately, but the Social Security Administration (SSA) says some of the most dangerous false information is in the form of misleading advertisements aimed at seniors. The agency has once again issued a warning to Social Security recipients to be on guard against scammers who present themselves as credible businesses, but are really only marketing worthless or redundant services. Click here for more.

Debt Collector Must Face Claim Over Voicemail. The third Circuit revived a putative class action alleging a debt collector violated federal law when it didn’t use its actual corporate name in a voicemail. The court reasoned that the use of an alternative business moniker was enough to support a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act allegation. Levins v. Healthcare Revenue Recovery Group LLC et. al., case no. 17-3330, in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Click here for more.
