The People’s Lawyer’s Tip of the Day

Have you ever had a family law, wills, or landlord/tenant question? Are you being harassed by a debt collector, stuck with a lemon or interested in starting a business? These are just some of the legal topics taught at the People’s Law School! The People's Law school is a free program focused on sharing information with the public about their legal rights and the role these rights play in their daily lives. More than 50,000 people have attended classes at the People’s Law School, taught by volunteer judges, lawyers and law professors.

The People's Law School takes place Saturday, April 1, from 9AM to 12:30PM at the Law Center on the main campus of the University of Houston. Arrive early for registration, coffee, and donuts.

Harbor Freight customers due refunds due to class action lawsuit

You could be due a partial refund from "Harbor Freight" if you were a customer between April 8th, 2011 and December 15th, 2016. The company has settled a class-action lawsuit which alleged the company advertised merchandise as "on sale" or "comp at" prices were based on prices that didn't exist within 28 of the past 90 days. Click here for more.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court clarified the test for the protectability of fashion designs and, more broadly, designs on utilitarian objects. The Court’s 6-2 ruling in Star Athletica, LLC v. Varsity Brands, Inc. states that designs of clothing and other useful articles may be copyright-protected when a qualifying feature incorporated into the design is conceptually separate from the article, and sets forth a two-part test for assessing separability.
