Soda Tax on the Ballot for 4 Cities Tomorrow

The push for taxes on sugar and sodas has gathered momentum this year, as officials and health advocates seek ways to stop obesity and diabetes epidemics.Three cities in California, San Francisco, Berkeley, and Albany, along with Boulder, Colorado will vote to add a tax to beverages with added sugar. This includes juices and sports drinks. State of Georgia has authority to regulate out of state payday lenders. Defendants operate outside the State of Georgia and their dealings with Georgia borrowers occurred telephonically or over the Internet. When a loan is funded, the funds are transferred to the borrower via electronic transfer to the borrower’s bank account. The State sought civil penalties and injunctive and other equitable relief thru its payday lender statute. The Georgia Supreme Court affirmed the trial courts refusal to dismiss.
