Bill to Stop NSA Spying Fails in Senate

On Tuesday, the United States Senate failed to get the 60 votes needed to stop the National Security Agency from collecting phone records. As a result, the controversial program will likely continue at least until the beginning of the year. In January, congress will reconvene to debate and renew sections of the Patriot Act set to expire in June.



The USA Freedom Act would have stopped the National Security Agency's widespread collection of phone records. It only needed two additional votes to pass.

Airfare Increases Despite Lower Fuel Costs

Despite saving $124 million a month on fuel, airlines are charging 10 to 15 percent more for flights than a year ago.



After numerous airline mergers, there are fewer options for consumers. Without the competition, airlines don't have to drop fares to get business.

Study Finds Black Friday Deals Not Great

An examination of this year's Black Friday ads reveals that they're generally no better than last year's deals. In fact, many of the deals are exactly the same, even when the technology is out of date.



At this point, just about every major Black Friday ad has already been released. However, if you're looking for something more appealing than last year, you may just be better off enjoying the holiday at home.

Punitive damages 100 times compensatory affirmed.

A Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed a judgment against Vatterott Educational Centers, Inc. for $27,696.96 in actual damages and $2,078,679.80 in punitive damages under the Missouri Merchandise Practices Act. The jury found Vatterott liable to Ms. Kerr for its deceitful practices in selling a certain educational program.

On appeal, Vatterott challenged the denial of its motion for a directed verdict, the submission of a certain damages instruction, and the amount of the punitive damages award.

The court of appeals affirmed.
