Student Loan Tips for Recent College Grads

Are you a recent college graduate?

A recent survey found that 70% of the 2013 class owed an average of more than $35,000 on loans and credit cards. With the six month grace period for many of the loans coming to an end, many recent graduates will be struggling to find a way to manage repayment. No matter how daunting, it's important that debtors get off on the right foot by making monthly payments as soon as the grace period ends. By doing so, debtors can protect their credit scores as they search for employment and a place to live.

Easier said than done, right?

Start with the basics. Map out all of your debt, including student loans, personal debts, and credit cards. Prioritize everything and get an understanding of exactly how much you owe. Then, make sure you have a clear understanding of payment options. What is the minimum payment? When is it due? Finally, may sure you pay on time. Just one late payment can put you in default and ruin your credit.

Student debt can be consuming. However, with some basic steps, it can be manageable. Take some time to understand your options.
