IRS: Tax Returns to Be Briefly Delayed

Tax filing season will start a little late this year. Originally set to start January 22, the Internal Revenue Service announced that it will begin accepting most tax filings on January 30. A (relatively) small percentage of taxpayers will need to wait until late February or early March to file their taxes.



The delays are a result of a protracted process to complete a "fiscal cliff" deal. The IRS needed to reprogram its computers to reflect late changes to tax laws.

2012 Exceptionally Safe Year for Aviation

Rest easy! According to the Aviation Safety Network, 2012 was an extremely safe year for airline travel worldwide. Over the course of the year, there were 23 accidents and 475 airliner accident fatalities. The yearly average (over the past ten years) is 34 accidents and 773 fatalities.




Despite the promising trend toward safer air travel, Boeing is dealing with numerous problems associated with its new 787 Dreamliner. From fuel leaks to spontaneous fires, the first composite (a fancy word for plastic) airplane has been marred by problems since the beginning. Although startling, aviation experts insist that the problems are not a huge concern and will likely be resolved in swift fashion.

Home insurance doesn’t cover Chinese drywall damage. The Virginia Supreme Court, in response to a certified question submitted by the Fourth Circuit, held that an "all risk" homeowners' insurance policy excluded coverage for damage allegedly caused by Chinese drywall. Click here for more.
