Sandy's Impact on Used Car Sales

If you're planning to purchase a used vehicle, you'll definitely want to make sure you properly inspect the vehicle before you make an agreement.

You may be saying to yourself, "this is old news!" Of course, everyone should properly inspect a vehicle before committing to the purchase. However, in the aftermath of a hurricane or major storm, this advice becomes even more important.

Why?

After a big storm, it is not uncommon for flooded vehicles to hit the used car market. Some industry experts predict that as many as half of the cars "destroyed" by Hurricane Sandy will make it back to the road. Because many vehicles destroyed by floods have no visible damage, unsuspecting consumers may not realize that the car they're interested in buying is actually a dud.

If you notice water or condensation in the headlights, a musty odor throughout the car, mud on floor or seats, water in the trunk, or corrosion to undercarriage, the vehicle may be flood damaged. Be careful! Click here for more.

The Sixth Circuit held that a radio station’s prerecorded telemarketing call did not violate the Telephone Consumer Protection Act because the calls were exempt from the Act’s provisions. The court found the calls were “hybrid” that both announced a contest and promoted the station. Click here for more.
