In addition to maintaining short-term interest rates near 0%, the Federal Reserve will also launch a bond-buying stimulus program. As part of the controversial program, the Fed will pick up $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities per month. Unlike previous programs, the Fed will have the flexibility to extend or retract the program based on the results it provides.
