Progress Made on Drug Shortages

In 2006, a mere 56 medications were in short supply. In 2011, there was a shortage of a staggering 250 of crucial medications. Last October, President Obama made addressing drug shortages a national priority. As of now, there are about 120 medications in short supply. The dramatic one year drop in shortages can be partially attributed to a rule that asks manufacturers to issue notifications about supply disruptions. In some instances, the FDA asked other companies to boost production to offset any shortfalls. Despite the progress, there is still room for improvement. What additional steps may be taken to protect your important medications? Click here for more.

Dealing With Back Pain

Eighty percent of people will experience back pain in their lifetime. Symptoms can range from slight discomfort to complete immobility. Unfortunately, although the symptoms associated with back problems are quite real, the source of the symptoms can be incredibly difficult to define. In many cases, the pain may be the result of muscle spasms. In limited instances, the pain might be the result of something much more serious. A disc hernia can not only cause excruciating pain, but also have life altering consequences if not identified and treated by a medical professional in a timely fashion. Having back problems? For the Lawyers

Purchaser of mortgage may be a debt collector under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The Sixth Circuit held that a mortgage purchaser may be a "debt collector" liable for violations of the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The court also noted that although the debt was not actually in default, the FDCPA still applies. “A FDCPA defendant cannot escape coverage under the Act by asserting to the court that the debt was not actually in default, despite having dunned plaintiffs for months or years in the face of plaintiffs’ pleas or proof that the collector has made some error.” Click here for more.
