NY AG Sues Banks Over MERS FraudWells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, and Bank of America are in trouble again. The banks are accused of using a mortgage electronic registration system (MERS) to put homeowners at a disadvantage in foreclosure proceedings. In fact, despite having no authority for foreclosure, the banks allegedly falsified court documents to illegally obtain that authority. With MERS it very hard to determine who actually owns the mortgages, making responding to foreclosure actions extremely difficult. What is MERS? Government Shuts Down 16 WebsitesThe federal government has shut down sixteen websites, accusing the owners of illegally streaming copyrighted material. According to the report, the websites provided live streaming of UFC, WWE, and boxing pay-per-view events. The websites also broadcast NFL football games and other sports events across markets. Consumer Wins MPG Suit Against HondaRecently, you may remember reading an article here about a woman who opted out of a class action in order to bring her own "MPG" lawsuit against Honda in small claims court. Although Honda claimed the vehicle tested at 50 miles per gallon, independent testing found the vehicle could only achieve a combined 37 MPG. Had the consumer joined the class, she would have received $100 to $200. On February 1, she won her case in small claims court and received a $9,867 judgement. Can you do it too? Click here for more.
