Amazon Introduces $199 Tablet Computer

On Wednesday, Amazon announced the release of the Kindle Fire, a tablet computer built to compete against the iPad. The Kindle Fire is smaller than the iPad, does not offer 3G (Wi-Fi only), does not have a camera, and runs on a modified Google Android operating system. However, at $199, not many consumers will be complaining. The Kindle Fire was build to compete directly with the iPad, with industry analysts describing the introductory price as "shockingly low." Is the Kindle Fire right for you? Click here for more.

For the Lawyers

Cruise ship employee not required to arbitrate rape claims. The Eleventh Circuit held that a cruise ship employee was not required to arbitrate common-law personal injury claims arising from her alleged rape by co-workers. The court noted that, “Nothing about those allegations relate to, arise out of, or are connected with [the plaintiff’s] crew agreement or her duties for Princess Cruise Lines as a bar server. The cruise line could have engaged in that tortious conduct even in the absence of any contractual or employment relationship with [the plaintiff].” Click here for more.
