Credit Chargebacks: The Unfriendly List

Do you shop online? Have you been labeled a "bad customer"? If you dispute a credit charge without contacting the online merchant first, you may be labeled a "bad customer" and barred from making future online purchases. A website, called BadCustomer.com, maintains a database of "bad customers" for member merchants. It has been around for approximately one year, but more than 18 million consumers have already been blacklisted. How does the blacklist work? Click here for more.


Toyota Issues Recall for Engine Fix

Toyota will recall 270,000 Lexus vehicles to address engine stalling problems. The recall affects seven luxury Lexus models. The recall includes 138,000 vehicles in the United States. The latest recall includes the 2007-2008 GS350 and GS450h; 2008 GS460; 2006-2008 IS350; 2007-2008 LS460 and LS460L; and 2008 LS600hL. Toyota recently recalled over 8.5 million vehicles for sticking accelerator pedals and received a $16.4 million fine in the United States for its troubles. Are more recalls on the way? Garnishment of social security funds did not constitute violation of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. A U.S. magistrate judge in California held found that a law firm didn't violate federal debt collection law when it garnished a bank account containing exempt Social Security funds in an attempt to collect a judgment.
