Senate Panel Addresses HOA Laws

The Texas Legislature is reviewing a trend among homeowners groups filing for foreclosure against associated homeowners. The homeowners groups use foreclosure to collect past-due fees and enforce rules. For most homeowners, association fees are mandatory. Due to a significant increase in association foreclosures, the legislature wants to protect homeowners against the unfair practices by providing adequate protections. Consumer Alert: Free Credit Report

If you have recently visited a "free credit report" website, you have probably noticed a barrage of ads for various products and services. In fact, many of the companies offering a free credit report do so conditionally. In order to obtain the free report, a consumer must sign up for another product or service, such as credit monitoring. If you run across one of these sites, avoid it. The only government-approved free credit report site is http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Through the site, you are entitled to one credit report per year from each of the three credit reporting agencies. Click here for more.


33 States Out of Unemployment Funding

According to the National Employment Law Project, thirty-three states have run out of money to maintain jobless benefits programs. The states have borrowed $38.7 billion to provide a safety net. Defective sperm cannot be basis for products liability suit. The Third Circuit held that genetic defects in sperm from a sperm bank cannot form the basis for a products liability suit. The court noted that allowing such a claim would be tantamount to recognizing a claim of "wrongful life." Click here for more.
