Federal law prohibits a debt collector from calling you at work, but only after he knows your employer prohibits such calls. If a debt collector calls you at work, let him know that your employer does not allow such calls and that you assume he will never call again. Bankrupt debtor personally liable for debt. The Fifth Circuit has held that a bankrupt debtor is personally liable for non-dischargeable debt arising out of misrepresentations that benefitted his company. The court found he was personally liable for the debt under Texas common law, which holds a corporate agent liable for his misrepresentations made on behalf of the corporation.
