Obama Requests $350 Billion in Asset Relief

This week, President-elect Obama made a request through President Bush for the remaining $350 billion in TARP ("Troubled Asset Relief Program") funds. However, after the first half of the bailout received significant public backlash, Senators are vowing to block the request. Eight Republican Senators have announced they will round up support to block the distribution of the remaining funds. In response, President-elect Obama made it known he would veto any resolution designed to block delivery of the remaining money. Bank of American Positioning for More Federal Aid

Punitive damages awarded on a 1-1 ratio. The Third Circuit has reduced a punitive damage award, noting that in most cases where the plaintiff wins a "substantial" compensatory award and the damages were purely economic, a 1-1 ratio should apply. Click here for more.
